A man picked the wrong time and place for a possible assault … just
outside a building where police officers were inside for a “Public Safety
Night” gathering.
Oxnard police officers were attending the annual Knights of Columbus
dinner in Oxnard April 13 when they were alerted at about 9 p.m. to a
disturbance taking place in an alley adjacent to the hall at 6th and D
streets.
According to police reports, Oxnard Assistant Chief Jason Benites and
Commander Eric Sonstegard ran outside to offer assistance. After they
arrived outside, they saw a victim on the ground and an individual
running from the scene. The individual running was identified by
witnesses as the man committing the assault, the report said.
Benites and Sonstegard, who were both in uniform, gave chase and
scaled a fence in the area. The chase lasted for about two minutes
over two blocks before Sonstegard caught up with the suspect near the
intersection of 5th and C streets.
The suspect was identified as Aaron Lee Hart, 41, a transient. He was
arrested and is facing felony battery charges. The victim, identified as
Alex George Urratio, 46, also a transient, received numerous cuts to
his face, and lost at least one tooth in the battery.
The report stated it was unclear what motivated the battery.

Do you think the economy is back on track? Why or why not?

John Anderson Palm Springs

“I think it’s got a long way to go.
I don’t think it will settle this year
when people have jobs and
homes are not being “We’ll
know it’s back on track
foreclosed. To allow people to
keep their homes, we should
have a moratorium for two “We’
ll know it’s back on track years.
People can spend their money
to help the economy.”
“I think the economy is showing
some signs. Some real estate
purchases are happening in
low-cost and foreclosed
homes. The administration is
forcing General Motors to go
bankrupt and that might cause
rebounding but probably not
until the end of summer.”
“No, I don’t. Too many people
are still unemployed –
regardless of what Wall Street
does. We need about 24
million jobs, and until we get
those we won’t have a stable
economy.”
“I’d have to say it is. That’s
based a bit more on positivity
that’s floating around. There’s
bit more faith.”
