Avenue from 8-9 a.m. as part of the Department’s "Click It or Ticket"
enforcement mobilization.
Twenty-eight citations were issued to motorists who were not wearing
their seat belts as required by law.
"I can’t tell you how pleased we were to see so many motorists
wearing their seat belts,” said Special Projects Commander Marty
Meyer. “This is very encouraging.”
While the National Highway Safety Administration realized its highest
national seatbelt usage rate of 83 percent in 2008, California’s seat
belt compliance is well over 90 percent.
The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a compliance
check May 20 at four locations and Oxnard motorists had a 98.2
percent compliance rate.
The Oxnard Police Department Traffic Unit will conduct three more
seat belt saturation operations next week. Other patrol beat resources
have similar events planned this weekend and next week.
