Council OKs balanced budget
Two years ago, Port Hueneme was
looking at a potential $1.8 million deficit
that threatened to get worse in the
coming years. But when the budget for
Fiscal Year 2009-10 was submitted for
review during a June 3 special City
Council session, the city had met its
No. 1 strategic goal of balancing the
budget  and was looking at small
surplus.

Hueneme Beach Festival seeks art,
craft vendors for Aug. 22-23 event
The Toni Young Hueneme Beach Festival is
inviting arts and crafts vendors to
participate in this year’s event Aug. 22 and
23 along Hueneme Beach Park.

Applications for reservations are being
accepted through July 31; however,
applications received after July 24 will be
accepted on a space-available basis only,
according to festival organizers.
Original artists and craft vendors along with
commercial vendors wanting to reserve
spaces, should call the event hot line at 805-
986-6542 or go to the Web site at
www.
huenemebeachfest.org to download the
application.

Organizers say the spaces sold out several
weeks before the event for the past two
years and urge those interested to send
their applications early. Vendors will
receive a 10-foot x 10-foot space with
electrical service for a fee.

The beach festival will celebrate its 11th
anniversary with a 1960s-revisted theme
commemorating the 40th anniversary of the
Woodstock music festival. The festival,
which is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both
days, returns to a free admission this year.
It features music of the Woodstock era
along with food and beverage booths, arts
and crafts, public safety booths and
commercial vendors.
