Memorial service set for military working dog
A public memorial service has been scheduled for Hasso, a
German Shepherd who served as a bomb-sniffer during tours
of duty in Iraq. The service has been scheduled for 3 p.m. Aug.
23 at Port Hueneme VFW Post 3935, 300 Surfside Drive, Port
Hueneme. The post recognized Hasso for distinguished
service on May 25.
With the Legislature passing a budget in July and Gov. Arnold
Schwarzenegger making further cuts, governmental agencies throughout the
state have had a chance to analyze the impact on local operations.
Port Hueneme stands to lose about $376,000 in transportation funds,
$275,000 borrowed from Prop. 1A revenue sharing funds and another $2.4
million in redevelopment funds, according to Robert Bravo, city financial
services director.

superintendent of the Hueneme School District, said. “We are concerned and
watching the different schools to make sure it does not develop. Last year we
worked very closely with the county health department and we will continue to
do so through the fall.”
