Police report progress being made in homicide case
Oxnard Police Chief John Crombach and District Attorney Gregory Totten
announced Sept. 3 that detectives are making significant progress in the
investigation into the Aug. 27 killing of Oxnard resident David Laut.

David Keith, department public information officer, said evidence collected
by investigators indicate Laut was not the victim of random violence by a
prowler.

Keith said investigators are pursuing several leads and are confident that an
arrest will be made in the case.
Laut, 52, was Hueneme High School athletic director at the time he was
killed.

Keith said the case was “at a sensitive point” and no additional information
about the case would be released for the time being.

Organizer happy with beach festival attendance surge
The Soul City Survivors had members of the audience dancing in the aisles during the
Toni Young Hueneme Beach Festival held Aug. 22-23. (Hueneme Pilot photo)
A groovy time was had by all at the 2009 Toni Young Hueneme Beach
Festival. The Woodstock-themed festival may have more than doubled its
attendance from last year when it charged a $4 admission and attendance
dipped to about 6,500 people. That charge was dropped for this year’s event.
