School district parcel tax goes before voters
Measure E meant to help stabilize Oxnard School District revenue losses
Faced with nearly $18 million in state budget cuts, the Oxnard School
District is turning to the public for getting past its current fiscal problems.
Measure E calls for levying a $99 per parcel tax annually for four years. It
would include an exemption for residents over the age of 65 and calls for
oversight of the revenue expenditures, if passed.

Beach district considers rules on building ‘McMansions’
A Hollywood Beach resident is asking the California Coastal Commission,
Ventura County Planning commissioners and the Channel Islands Beach
Community Services District to consider restrictions on the building of
so-called McMansions that occupy large tracts of land, but more
importantly, block out the view of longtime beach property owners.

Oxnard police get DUI grant, target Halloween drivers
The Oxnard Police Department has been awarded a new traffic safety grant for a
year-long anti-DUI program aimed at preventing deaths and injuries on area roadways.
New enforcement measures to combat impaired driving are coming as a result of a
recent $425,000 grant awarded by the California Office of Traffic Safety to Oxnard.

Port Hueneme’s proposed rate increases for trash and wastewater
services took another step toward completion with a public outreach
session held as part of the City Council meeting Oct. 19. The final step will
be a Nov. 2 public hearing.
