Port Hueneme council selects Griffaw as mayor
Stories from Dec. 10-23 issue
Norman Griffaw, a Port Hueneme City
Council member for the past three
years and mayor pro tem for the past
year, assumed duties as the new
mayor of the city Dec. 7.
Griffaw was elected unanimously and
took over duties from outgoing Mayor
Jon Sharkey, who nominated Griffaw
for the position. Sylvia Munoz Schnopp
was elected to serve as mayor pro tem.
“I’m grateful to be here,” Griffaw said
after his election. “It’s very humbling. I’
m hoping I can do the citizens proud
because they are the boss. I still
believe that to this day."

Mourners pay final respects to NaoTakasugi
Nao Takasugi, former Oxnard mayor, 37th Assembly District
representative and Oxnard Harbor District commissioner, was
remembered as a man of integrity, passion and humor by family and
friends during a memorial service held Dec. 6 at the Oxnard Performing
Arts Center.

Governor opens Ventura County veterans home
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Roger Brautigan, secretary, California Department
of Veterans Affairs, cut the ribbon at the official opening of the Veterans Home in
Ventura Dec. 4. To the governor’s right is Brenda Manke, administrator for the home. -

Politicians, military officials and local dignitaries were on hand for the
ribbon-cutting, but it will be the 60 or so veterans who live there that will
make the newest Veterans Home of California a real home once they
begin moving in around mid-January.
